Different civilisations have lived in Ibiza throughout its history: Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Christians. From all these civilizations we have received a singular walled city: Dalt Vila. Charming and intriguing, along its cobbled streets you can find lovely old houses and viewpoints, and that is the reason why is considered the heart of the city. Its castle and walls from the Renaissance were declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO on 4th December, 1999. Dalt Vila is the best preserved walled city of the Mediterranean and it also includes Sa Penya, Es Soto, la Marina and the Necrópolis des Puig dels Molins, surrounding neighbourhoods.

Seven bastions make the walls up: Sant Pere, Sant Jaume, Sant Jordi, Sant Bernat, Santa Tecla, Sant Joan and Santa Llúcia. From each bastion you can enjoy good views in a very magic area. Dalt Vila walled city has become a point of reference on the Ibizan art scene during the spring and summer. The “Ibiza International Music Summit” in May, the “Ibiza Jazz Festival” in August, “Adlib Fashion Show” or cultural activities like dramatized visits in this historic centre, visits to its Church, Cathedral and museums.
But undoubtedly, the greatest attraction is “The Medieval Fair” that takes place in the second weekend in May. Apart from that, in summer, every Sunday morning Dalt Vila holds a traditional local crafts market, known as “El Rastrillo” and it is located in “Plaça de la Vila”. Furthermore, inside the walls you can find a lot of restaurants, art galleries, lovely small shops and much more that will turn your cobbled street walk into a complete experience.

Finally, do not forget visiting La Marina neighbourhood located on one side of the walls. An old district of narrow streets with a very special chic touch. It is a true delight to walk its streets. There are plenty of well-known brands shops mixed with small handcraft shops and Adlib fashion complements. In addition, you will find live music bars and meeting points for the local inhabitants and tourists, such as the “Plaza del Parque”. Be sure to visit “Calle de la Virgen”, full of unique bars aimed at the LGTB community.
During the summer season there are some craft markets you can visit while you enjoy live musical shows in the most unexpected places.

We recommend that you enjoy breakfast in the “Plaça del Mercat Vell” while contemplating the scenic beauty, local culture, history and heritage.
